FAQ #4 My garage door opener opens but will not close the garage door
Garage door openers that have built-in radio control receivers can be overwhelmed or “blinded” by the type of light bulbs that are used on the opener itself and also in close proximity. Most LED bulbs and some CFC bulbs have internal power supplies that broadcast interference signals for the garage door remotes. Also, we have seen aging CFC bulbs that performed OK start to have this problem as they age.
The reason that the garage door opener will open the garage door from the remote controls is that the lights on the opener are off. Once these lights turn on, the interference takes place, preventing you from closing the garage door with the remotes. Genie(tm) does make an LED bulb that does not have these issues.
